About The Flying V Diner
The idea behind The Flying V Diner has been incubating in our minds for years, and we began taking steps towards making it a reality in early 2006. We began with a vision, and over the past year we have revised and refined it into a viable business plan for a restaurant in Washington, D.C. We also gained hundreds of hours in the food service industry working at various positions at a variety of restaurants and businesses in the D.C. Metro Area.
Our goal is to open a 1950s-style vegetarian diner in downtown Washington, D.C.
The Flying V Diner will open two months after we find the perfect location, a search that could take a month or a year. We will serve vegan interpretations of American Diner food, including specialty veggie burgers, all-day breakfast, and a wide selection of vegan desserts. Our goal is to prove that vegan food is not synonymous with salads or tasteless hunks of "vegetable protein." Our emphasis is on taste over nutrition, but because it's vegan it will always be healthier than those big fast food chains.
The Flying V Diner will take its design cues from the classic 1950s diner found in American film and urban lore, and enhance the atmosphere with "green" design, D.C.-centric touches, and its own unique personality. We will focus more on creativity than on nostalgia and kitsch, featuring a rotating gallery of local artists.
